Feed and Water Horses Outlaw of the Old West

Horses are one of the animals in Outlaws of the Old West. They can be tamed, which allows them to be ridden or pull wagons.

Horse Skins [ ]

Multiple wild horse skins are available in randomized colors. Rarer are the solid color skins. Many, many more skins are available from the Horse Breeder.

Horse Breeds [ ]

QUARTER HORSE is the most common horse

  • 150 Health
  • 150 Energy
  • 100 Thirst
  • 100 Hunger

MUSTANG is somewhat less common, has more health starting stats, and buys / sells for more cash.

  • 250 Health
  • 150 Energy
  • 100 Thirst
  • 100 Hunger

< NOTE: Mustangs are visibly a bit more slender than Quarter Horses

Taming [ ]

To tame a horse, you will need to make a lasso from 10 Rope. Once done, equip the lasso and crouch slowly toward the horse and throw the lasso. You will be introduced to a mini game that you need to click 3 times to tame the horse.

See Taming for more.

Horse Riding [ ]

MOUNTING:
Face the horse with the camera until the horse's name appears. Hit the 'E' key to mount / dismount.
MOVEMENT:
Default speed is a canter speed. Walk option ('K' key) is the walk. Sprinting while riding accesses the Gallop speed. A horse's trot is transitory between walk and canter animations.

  • Trot speed can be accessed with the horse attached to a wagon. The default changes to a Trot speed, and the Sprint changes to a canter while horse is attached.

JUMPING:
In-game horses jump far higher and further than their real life counter-parts. A horse can fall pretty far before it takes much fall damage, which may stack to kill the horse.
HEALTH:
Horse health regenerates at about (1pts/sec).

ENERGY:
Horse Energy (Stamina) is consumed by Sprinting speed (ie. Gallop while riding, canter while attached to a wagon). It regenerates at about (4pts/second).

Horse Diet [ ]

Horses eat fruit and vegetable items and honey. Honey is strongly recommended, as it does not go Rot.
Water is given either through a Trough or a Bucket. There seems to be no way to water a horse directly from a water source.

Horse HUD [ ]

Pressing 'F' while mounted bring up the Mount HUD:

Horse Levels [ ]

Your horse levels, similar to how the player does. Distance ridden is the driving factor of Horse leveling.
Similar to the player character, a horse level offers 4 spendable points, which can be applied to its base stats. To do this, mount the animal and pull up your Inventory screen. From there, you will see a more detailed information screen for your horse. Buttons apply points for each skill point. There is also a "Reset Skill Points" button to reallocate.

Each spent Skill Points will go towards one of the following, depending on your choice:

  • +9 Health
  • +5 Energy (Stamina)
  • +1 Thirst
  • +1 Hunger

BUGS [ ]

BUGS Horses may get stuck in objects, foundations or rocks. Try riding and jumping it out. Alternately a Lasso generally works well. BUGS A horse attached to a wagon may be "Sotlen" with it. Does not change ownership, but may be moved with the wagon.
